Genetic Resources: Genetic Variation

This web site is a continually evolving and ongoing project. Its purpose is to improve communication among all groups and individuals that are involved with these species. We need your help! Lamb, F. B. 1960. An approach to mahogany tree improvement. Caribbean Forester 21(1/2):12-20.
Improvement needs. There is a need for documentation of natural variation of the three species of mahogany.  For S, macrophylla there are large geographic gaps separating different populations. Differences in wood properties have been observed on different sites. The validity of separate macrophylla-humilis needs study.  There is variation in S. mahagoni in Cuba and the Dominican Republic. Phenotype variations include wood quality.
