Mahogany tannin use. In Jamaica Swietenia mahagoni was one of the barks used in the past for tannin and as a dye. Compared with other species it has low tannin content.  One result of this use was the debarking of potential timber trees, some of small size. (Abstracted by F. H. Wadsworth)
